6 Sexy Beach Friendly Hairstyles

by Kirsten on April 24, 2010

The sun is shining and the weather is heating up outside. It’s the time of year that we all love to head to the beach or on a tropical vacation. I can see it now, tropical drink in hand, feed in the sand, the sound of the waves…. perfection. In fact, I leave next week for Hawaii. (Yes I know I have said this a million times this last week, and I may, just MAY be rubbing it in a little bit.  I am excited, ok!??!) Regardless, it’s important to have some cute hairstyles that work for your trip.  These six styles will keep you looking sexy and yet comfortable, humidity-proof, and are not complex at all!

Beach Hair Wavy

Easy Loose Waves

This is one of my personal favorites as it requires the least amount of effort. It is the typical Victoria’s Secret hair we have all become so fond of. That messy yet perfectly sexy tousled waves just screams beachy. For some this style is easier than others, I am definitely one of them. If your hair is more straight and you have a hard time getting waves, before bed spritz your hair with water or towel dry it after taking a shower and put your hair in a couple fat braids. Go to sleep and when you wake up, take the braids out and you should have some wave! For ladies with a bit of wave already, I just throw my hair in a loose bun on top of my head before bed, and that does the trick.  I also suggest using a product like Bumble & Bumble’s Surf Spray to spritz and scrunch it (it will give you a bit of extra hold).

Braid in Front

Small Braid Just in the Front

Another favorite hairstyle of mine, is a small braid just around the front crown of your hair. Create a side-part and grab a small section of hair, continue by creating a french braid along your hairline. For some, french-braiding is a task that is just beyond their comprehension, and in this instance, it works equally well to just grab a section, and braid it normally. When finished, take the braid and tuck it under your hair, securing it with a bobby-pin. I love this hairstyle as it looks really cute and works wonders at keeping your hair out of your face.

Messy Ponytail

Messy Ponytail

Some women just know how to rock this style and make it look like they spent an hour getting their hair this way. Pull your hair together in a bit of a messy fashion by allowing some layers to hang loose and tie it back just below the back of your head. To add a fun little twist, separate your ponytail into two sections and twist them together finishing about halfway down. Secure with another hair-tie and you how have a new take on the average ponytail! Voila!

Messy bun with braid

A Whimsical Bun

I have always loved wearing my hair in a bun, and its such an easy hair style. Swoop all of your hair up into a high ponytail just at the top part of the back of your head. To make it easier, some prefer to secure it now with a hair-tie. Twist your hair and start wrapping it around to create a bun. If you have heavy hair like I do, I use another hair tie to secure the bun. I don’t make my bun too tight as then it’s really easy to see the hair-tie (aim for a color similar to your hair tone). If you don’t have to worry about your hair being too heavy, secure the bun with a few bobby pins. I also love to use a few small random braids with this style. To accomplish this, just create a small braid or two on each side of your part, and pull it into the ponytail prior to creating your bun.  Way cute and super beachy!

Messy Updo

Another really simple style. I believe we all have used this hairstyle a few times in our lives. Simply pull your hair into a high ponytail, but instead of pulling your hair all the way through, only pull it halfway.  Twist your hair tie again, and secure it over the knot you created. What is great about this hairstyle is that you can create it over and over without messing it up. Perfect when you may want to pull it down or up throughout the day! (Also perfect to use and go between the loose wavy style).

Low chignon

Low Chignon or Bun

This look can be both sleek and simple. Totally effortless, there are a variety of ways you can make this look work. Use a little leave in conditioner prior to creating this style, it not only will protect your hair from the sun, but it also will help create a bit of shine and hold. Play with either a center part, side part, or perhaps no part at all! Pull your hair together at the base of your neck, and twist into a tight bun, or perhaps leave it more messy. Either way will look perfect for a day at the beach.
