Versatile Shoes for the Jet-setting Fashionista

by Kirsten on August 22, 2012

When I’m traveling, choosing which shoes I bring along is always tricky business due to the limited suitcase space. In fact, I happen to have an international trip right around the corner and finding the right shoes for my various activities is no small feat! It’s extremely important to pack shoes that will function well in a variety of scenarios, so I’ve compiled a list of options that are great for the gal who wants to be prepared, stylish, and make the most of her limited luggage space. If you’re planning to spend your time hiking, dining, and/or dancing, we’ve got you covered!

Jessica Simpson

These shoes have received rave reviews based on style, comfort, and fit. With a global brand now worth $1 billion, Jessica Simpson has developed comfortable walking and dress shoes for each occasion. Among the most notable are the flats, each named for a woman that exudes type of style. Jessica Simpson’s famous Calie, Camille, and Adalia flats complement a variety of outfits and vacation environments. Jessica Simpson’s designs combine her experiences in Texas, Los Angeles, and around the world for great travel shoes.

Bandolino

Stylish Bandolino shoes set the standard for well-made sandals. Most items are hand-made rather than machine-built, so one can choose from among a variety of personalized footwear. Styles such as the Xarby, Aquaria, and Happy Me are among the most popular choices.

With a wide selection of slip-on shoes, Anne Klein is a popular brand for travel. Known for upscale style at affordable prices, the brand has something for everyone. Most of the shoes are flats, so any globetrotter can have both suitcase space and comfortable, stylish shoes.

Great for style-conscious women, these shoes are designed to customize a variety of outfits, from bohemian to working professional. For those looking for a more personalized approach to their travel style, Nine West offers a great fit.

Nike

With its name recognition and reputation for quality, Nike is one of the top choices for athletic wear in the world. Travelers can choose anything from high impact running shoes to slip-on athletic shoes to accommodate suitcase space and activity demands. Nike is one of my all-time favorite brands and I’ll be bringing a pair with me on my trip – they are just amazing!

Easy Spirit

As a specialty shoe shop, Easy Spirit offers a prime selection of narrow and wide width shoes, plus size shoes, and sandals. Choose from a large offering of personalized shoes for every travel experience.

What are you favorite brands for travel? I find it increasingly difficult to find stylish shoes that are both comfortable for many hours of walking and fashionable. The above choices should give you quite a range to choose from, but I would love to hear about your advice and great finds!

When this popped into my inbox, I knew I had to share it with all of you. Many of us love to take advantage of a quick weekend holiday or vacation, and this is a perfect time to look at some packing and clothing recommendations!

Here are Shopbop’s suggestions (and I know I am not the only one that is a huge fan of theirs)!

Just looking at this list makes me realize I need to pick up a few summer essentials. Some new day dresses, printed shorts, and more sandals!

How about you? What new items do you need in your summer vacation wardrobe? Tell us in the comments below!

In honor of my recent search for new sandals, I figured it was a perfect time to highlight one of my favorite summer trends – wedge sandals! I always like to have about two pairs on hand, at minimum. My last pairs headed into retirement, and again I was on a quest for the perfect wedge.

What does the perfect wedge consist of? Well, for me, a few things: comfort, a cork or braided base, and simple colors that can mix and go with just about any color palette. Your list may be different, but if you follow my advice, you’ll be sure to have a couple pairs of shoes that are in regular rotation!

Let’s start out with a few pairs seen on various celebs. The first – my absolute FAVORITE. Sigh. The Stuart Weitzman Alex.

Buy the Stuart Weitzman Alex at Endless.com – $365

Want Jennifer Aniston and Eva Mendes’s look for less? Can’t quite afford the Stuart Weitzman Alex? How about splurging for the N.Y.L.A equivalent?! I love mine!

Buy the N.Y.L.A. Women’s Colbie Wedge Espadrille at Endless.com – $49

Looking for something a bit different? I also love these styles:

Chinese Laundry Women’s Go For It Wedge Sandal – $79

I absolutely LOVE this look on Audrina Partridge:

Chloe Cork Wedge with Slingback

Purchase the Chloe Cork Wedge Slingback at Bloomingdales

Want Audrina Partridge’s look for less? Get these shoes from Zodiac American for a fraction of the price. They are  slightly different, but definitely get the same look:

I can’t begin to express how happy I am that flared and bell bottom jeans are making a comeback. I still remember the first pair of designer jeans that I bought; the Seven for All Mankind Flares. They were fabulous, and I loved the way they fit my body perfectly. With skinny jeans being all the rage the last few years, I had put a stop on buying flares, bootcuts, and bell bottom style pants. It was a sad day in my house.

But, not anymore! Check out the various celebrities below sporting the flared jeans look. Can we all agree that they look fabulous? Yes. Is it just for girls with perfect bodies and long legs? Absolutely not. But more on that below.

Nicole Richie in Current/Elliott

Buy the Current/Elliott The Bell Jean in Fuel/Fray from Tobi.com!

As you can see there are a variety of women sporting this look. Very petite to very tall. Although fuller figured women weren’t in this selection, the key is to find a cut that fits your body best, and a length that doesn’t have to be hemmed too much. (It loses the integrity of the cut and the features placed at the bottom of the leg). Best to look for jeans that may come in petite or tall versions if you tend to be on one end of the spectrum or the other.

One of the greatest parts about writing this blog, is being introduced to new boutiques and online clothing stores. Rarely do I shop in-store anymore; between the time saved, the ease of purchase, and the amazing return/exchange policies, I adore online shopping.

When contacted by Kristin and Ashley of Walk In Closet Boutique, I was happy to check out their site, eager to find another fun place to indulge myself in some retail therapy.

One of the things that I like most, is the story behind their site:

Walk In Closet Boutique was founded by two sisters, Kristen and Ashley. Even though we are as different as night and day, the one thing we share is our love of fashion. When we were little girls, we kept busy for hours playing dress up and styling our dolls in fabulous outfits.

Now that we’re all grown up we still love to play dress up. We hope that Walk In Closet Boutique will bring back those childhood memories and also bring out the fashionista in you.

We invite you to take a walk in our closet and rummage through our clothes! You may notice that we each have our own sense of style which can be easily mixed and matched and we offer Price Points to fit any budget.

In addition to offering the following brands: Lucca Couture, Seventy Two Changes, !It Jeans, Pleasure Doing Business, Bloom Boom Boom, Ark & Co., Aryn K, Theme, Tulle, Plush, Sauce, Collective Concepts, Alternative, Hy & Dot, Factory, Left on Houston, Jenny Han, Fraiche, Charlie Jade, Daniel Rainn, Jayrun Jewelry, they also host trunk shows in the NY Metropolitan area!

I was lucky enough to try something from their new Spring Collection, this fabulous trench coat from Tulle. Made of 100% cotton and double-breasted, this jacket can be used through all seasons, and will easily become a closet staple. (PS – Read more below for an exclusive coupon code to be used on your purchase there!!)

One of my favorite things about this trench, is the interior print that lines the jacket. It is ADORABLE! Every time I put this jacket on, it makes me smile. I tried a Medium, and it fit perfectly. So I definitely would order true-to-size.

I highly recommend checking out their site, and to give you a little push to do so, they have kindly offered an exclusive discount code for Traveling Fashionista readers!! Use “SPRINGFLING” at checkout, and receive 15% off your total purchase!

Enjoy!

Love,

K.

It’s been a bit of time since I provided more than a sample sale list to you, so this is long overdue. Thanks to recently learning about my faulty hips (thank you, hip dysplasia), and the plethora of tests and potential surgeries they want to give me, you could say my life has been a bit beyond hectic. No worries though – I am happy and healthy!!

Nevertheless, I was able to try a pair of tights that are perfect for a great Valentine’s Day gift! (Yes, the irony in going from the above, to this, is epic!)

Whether you like to buy yourself a little something, or want to give your sweetie, friend, mom or any other woman in your life a little something – this is a great option. Not too expensive, something you can use time and time again, and simply put – they are ADORABLE.

Sculptz makes this amazing subtle black sheer that has just the right amount of sophistication and fun. Completely sexy and works with almost any outfit, this heart shaped print does not go overboard – and gives your outfit just that extra little bit of pop.

To top it all off, these tights offer unbeatable shaping! Think rear-lifting, tummy flattening, hip and thigh smoothing! They are unbelievably comfortable – and now on sale for $8.99!

These definitely do not just have to be worn only on Valentine’s Day, in fact, they make a great option to switch up the polka dot look! Comfortable and chic – I love my pair, and know you will too!

Pick up your pair here!!

It wasn’t that long ago that I posted about Rachel Zoe’s resort picks for a warm weather vacation, so when I came upon her newest travel fashion suggestion, I just couldn’t resist!

Ask Rachel: Passport to Paris – Packing Tips for a Cold Weather Vacay

Hey RZ! What should I pack for a 10 day vacay in Paris and London in February? – submitted by @vintagefinder, via Twitter

Carole,
Paris or London at any time of year is a dream, but since you are visiting in February, you must prepare to bundle up—in style! My advice is that you bring plenty of cozy clothes and accessories without over-stuffing your suitcase…are you ready to make a packing list?

Starting with the inner-layers and working out, take with you 1. pair of sturdy leggings 2. fashion-forward jeans 3. long sleeve tee 4. chunky knit sweater and 5. long outerwear option—my vote is a trench coat! You will quickly find that dressing for cold weather is all about layering your look.

After you have your base ensemble down, the next step is to excessorize. I recommend you do that with a 6. thick scarf 7. leather gloves and 8. trapper hat. For convenience, be sure to carry a 9. cross-body satchel to safely secure your belongings, which should include a 10. passport cover and 11. cool camera!

Finally, in terms of footwear, bring a pair of 12. riding boots that you can walk around the city comfortably in while still looking très chic! xoRZ

Kourtney Kardashian is such a beauty. Her style is great, and I love checking out her various outfits. I see her as being fashion-forward, trying things that most may normally shy away from. I really admire her adventurous side when it comes to her look. Although this look is a bit more comfortable chic, I think it makes a great travel outfit! What do you think?

On another note, they hate when the paps get too close to Baby Mason… give them some space – please! You can be respectful and yet still say hello. K?

Celebrity Style Trends: Silk Shirts and Blouses

by Kirsten on December 27, 2010

Being the tactile person I am, I absolutely love clothing that feels good to the touch. So when I saw a variety of celebrities finding ways to work silk shirts into their wardrobes, I was excited to say the least!

Silk shirts have a timeless, classy appeal to them, easily able to be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Choosing a basic color will assure that you can wear it with a plethora of outfits – simply update your accessories and you’ll have a new look every time.

Although owning a silk shirt can feel a bit daunting, I have compiled some great advice at the bottom of this article as to how to find the best fit and how to care for silk shirts and blouses to assure they last a long time.

Here are some of my favorite looks of celebrities in silk shirts:

Alexa Chung in Silk Shirt

Cameron Diaz in Silk Shirt

Leighton Meester in Helmut Lang Silk Shirt

Lauren Conrad in Myne Silk Shirt

Mila Kunis in Silk Shirt

Olivia Palermo in Silk Shirt

Ready to pick one up for yourself? Me too! Here are some great options at a variety of price-points:

Bebe Skinny Silk Shirt – $69

Madewell Silk Bromley Blouse – $98

Equipment Hard Feelings Satin Blouse – $198

Express Military Silk Blouse – $34.95

How to find the best fit for silk shirts and blouses:

Look for a shirt or blouse that is flowy and loose, but not overly baggy. The end of your sleeves should hit right at your wrist without extra material bagging or poofing. Some shirts are designed to be more oversized and loose, so if you don’t like the look on your body, find a style that has more of a tailored look to it. Some silk shirts carry a bit of spandex to help create a more fitted shape but still allow movement.

How to care for your silk shirt:

Always follow the tag’s instructions. Rarely can you wash a silk shirt as you do other clothing items. If it says you can handwash, use a gentle detergent. Darker colors have an increased risk of fading when you wash, so make sure to follow the instructions on the tag exactly as suggested. Should you get a stain there are a few ways to treat them. If the stain is oil based try a bit of cornstarch first, this will help lift the oil. If it is a water-based stain, use something like Tide to Go or Oxyclean (just make sure to follow the directions, especially when it tells you how to treat silk fibers).

How to make your silk shirt or blouse last a long time:

As opposite as this may sound, it is a good idea to launder your shirt after every use. Our bodies carry a lot of natural oils that over time can leave behind marks and stains.  Store it on a padded hanger to avoid any mis-shaping or snags.

Happy shopping!

Love, K.

I happened to come across this great question to Rachel Zoe – celeb stylist. It is such a great fit for the time of year, and well, what this site is all about! Enjoy!!

Ask Rachel: Time To Get Away – Resort Picks For A Hot Holiday

Rachel,

I am escaping to Hawaii with my boyfriend for the holiday, but am perplexed about what to pack…resort wear bemuses me! What would you bring? I want to look stylish and easygoing at the same time. Thank you! — Madison, via Submit a Question.

Madison,

A girl after my own heart, I love nothing more than to end the year with a much-deserved warm weather getaway! Let’s discuss some beach-appropriate essentials for you to pack…

In general, when shopping for resort vacation wear, I suggest setting your sights on vibrant and airy apparel that can be worn year after year. Something like All Saints’ Night Florals Karin Maxi Dress is a perfect starting point—it is floral, silky and day-to-night appropriate.

The next step is to pick out a few travel-inspired accessories to enrich your look. Do not be afraid to go over-the-top…you’re vacationing! Some of my current favorite jet set add-ons are Banana Republic’s Ariel Statement Necklace, Diane von Furstenberg’s Opal Wedges, MayaBags’ Plaid Bag—so ideal for the plane!—and Eugenia Kim’s Honey Straw Hat. Thoughts?

Of course, beauty essentials are a must too! Think out of the box with Chanel’s exotic blue Riva polish, Model Co’s Tan Extender and Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray.

Saving the best for last, you can’t go to Hawaii (or any other beachy destination) without a swimsuit! JETS by Jessika Allen’s Haven Floral-Print Bikini is a dream, but if you are more comfortable in a one-piece, try Mara Hoffman’s equally stylish Halter One-Piece. Aloha! xoRZ
